Passenger assistants

Passenger-Assisted Transport in Warwickshire

Where a journey needs more than a driver, a passenger assistant can be arranged and agreed before travel to provide the support that has been discussed.

Overview

About Passenger assistants

Some journeys work better with a second person on board. Not for the driving, but for the passenger — someone present in the vehicle, on hand at the doors, and part of the handover at either end. Road Buddy Transport can arrange a passenger assistant where one is required and agreed.

The role is deliberately defined in advance. Before the journey we agree what support is expected, what happens at collection, what happens on arrival and who the passenger is handed over to. That agreement is what the assistant works to.

A passenger assistant is not automatically included on any journey, and is not a substitute for care or clinical support. We say so plainly because families deserve to know exactly what they are arranging.

Who this suits

  • Families who have agreed an assistant is needed
  • Schools and settings planning a supported route
  • Organisations arranging regular passenger journeys
  • Passengers who prefer not to travel alone
  • Accessible journeys with agreed boarding support
  • Arrangements needing a clear, written handover

Vehicles and access

Seating and practical points

An assistant occupies a passenger seat, which matters when a vehicle is close to capacity or when wheelchair space is required. Tell us the total number travelling, including the assistant, so the vehicle allocated is genuinely large enough.

A journey requiring an assistant needs advance planning. Assistant and vehicle availability are confirmed as part of the booking arrangement.

Helpful details to include

  • Total passengers travelling, including the assistant
  • What support has been agreed for the journey
  • Who meets the passenger at each end
  • Whether a wheelchair space is also required
  • Days and times of the journey
  • Any practical boarding considerations

Scope of the role

What a passenger assistant is, and is not

A passenger assistant provides journey support and assistance agreed before travel. That is the whole of the role, and it is agreed with you rather than assumed.

The assistant’s role is limited to the journey support agreed with you before travel. Any support outside that agreed role should be discussed before booking.

Please do not send medical or safeguarding information through the booking form. Call us if the journey needs a detailed discussion.

  4. 4

The journey is arranged once you have agreed the details and we have confirmed it back to you.

Every journey is priced individually, based on the route, timing, passenger numbers and any accessibility requirements.

Questions

Passenger assistants questions

Does every journey include a passenger assistant?

No. A passenger assistant is arranged only where it is required and agreed in advance. If you would like one, please raise it when you first send your journey details.

What does a passenger assistant do?

They provide journey support and assistance that has been agreed before travel — for example being present in the vehicle, helping with boarding and settling, and handing over to the person meeting the passenger.

What does a passenger assistant not do?

Their role is the journey support agreed before travel, such as being present in the vehicle, helping with boarding and supporting the agreed handover at each end.

Can the same assistant travel each time on a regular route?

Familiarity is something we will discuss when planning a regular route, but we do not promise a guaranteed named assistant for every journey.

Does an assistant take up a passenger seat?

Yes. An assistant travels in the vehicle, so include them in your passenger numbers — particularly where a wheelchair space also reduces seating.

How is the assistance agreed?

We discuss what support is needed on the journey, write down what has been agreed, and keep to that. If the requirement changes, we agree the change before the next journey rather than during it.

Safe Journeys. Trusted Care.
